ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICAL THEORY WORKSHOP
Each year, on the day before the official start of the Western Political Science Association meeting, the Environmental Political Theory working group hosts a day-long workshop.
Typically, topics range from pedagogy and research agendas, to ethical issues and environmental activism. As a core component of the workshop, organizers try to arrange for local environmental groups to speak about their work.

Location: Caesars Palace Hotel, Roman IV
Workshop agenda:

The state of EPT
We will begin the workshop with an open discussion of the following questions: Given the state of environmental discussion, how should we teach EPT? Is it important that the message of EPT is communicated to an audience outside of the group? If so, how might we encourage or participate in this engagement? Articles relevant to this discussion:

Our goal for this workshop is to enable junior scholars to discuss their publishing goals and strategies with the panelists. Given the limited time available to us, workshop participants should refrain from sharing personal "war stories" and respond constructively to questions about EPT-friendly presses, journals, and publishing generally.
Confirmed speakers: Emily Howard, John Meyer, and David Schlosberg

Lunch (hotel food court)
1:30-2:30pm

Critical/alternative methods session
During the EPT workshop, we will discuss creative methodologies in research, teaching, and practice. This includes, but is not limited to, poetry, music, film, creative writing, and photography. We hope that you will reflect on your own motivations, and sources of inspiration, that have drawn you to the field of environmental political theory; and ask you to share how you creatively pursue scholarship and mobilize knowledge.
Confirmed speakers: George Gonzales, Anatoli Ignatov, Eli Meyerhoff, James Rowe, Sarah Marie Wiebe
The panelists will reflect on the following questions for 7-10 minutes:
1 - What artforms prompt critical reflection in your work?
2 - Do you think that art and alternative media offer fruitful avenues for engaging diverse communities beyond the academy?
3- How can creative methodologies have an impact in the classroom and in the community?
After approximately 45 minutes from the speakers, Jennifer Lawrence will facilitate an open floor discussion. All workshop participants are encouraged to bring in a creative item - i.e. poetry, painting, music, image or narrative - to prompt discussion of the above questions.
